Flexible printed circuits, also known as flex circuits, are sometimes regarded as a printed circuit board (PCB) that can bend. Flexible circuits are members of the electronic and interconnection family. They are mainly composed of CU (copper foil), acrylic, epoxy resin thermal-setting glue and PI to protect the conductor circuits. Compared with a rigid PCB, the weight can be reduced by about 90%.
According to application requirements, engineers can control capacitance, inductance, characteristic impedance, delay and attenuation when designing the flexible PCB. They can be produced to have the functions of a transmission line. Technologically, these parameters are related to wire width, thickness, spacing, insulation layer thickness, dielectric constant, loss tangent, etc., so it is difficult for engineers to complete this process when using wire cables.
