FR-4 board
FR-4 refers to a type of material with a flame retardant rating of FR-4, which will go off itself in a short time after being burned. It is a kind of matrix material that uses epoxy resin as adhesive and glass fiber as reinforcing material. This kind of matrix material has excellent electrical performance and high working temperature, besides, its performance is less affected by the environment. In terms of processing technology, it is superior to the glass fiber boards of other resins. It is a kind of very important and commonly used matrix material.
While FR-4 can also be classified according to the different Tg. Tg refers to the glass transition temperature of the material, that is, the temperature at which the material physically changes from the high-elastic state to the glass state. We can think it as a temperature at which the material will deform, that is, the maximum working temperature of the material. If working at a temperature above Tg continuously, the material will deform, which may cause malfunctions or safety hazards. The commonly used types are Tg130, Tg150 andTg170. Of course, the price of material with different Tg is also different, so we should choose the appropriate FR-4 material according to different using environments. Generally, for boards with 8 layers and above, Tg170 materials must be used since they will generate lots of heat. For those boards with less layers but large size, we also recommend using Tg170 materials.
